Call for Artists - Amulets, Nazars & Evil Eyes: Artists Looking Forward
Queens College Art Center, New York, presents an open call for artists working in all disciplines on the theme of Amulets, Nazars and Evil Eyes for a group exhibition, Amulets, Nazars & Evil Eyes: Artists Looking Forward.
Many cultures believe an evil eye can cause injury or bad luck for the person at whom it is directed for reasons of envy or dislike. Artists are invited to submit contemporary work on personal histories of the evil eye (nazar) and the submitted work should seek commonality within their own practice and culture. All traditional and non-traditional media are acceptable for submission and artists working in any discipline may apply. More info here.

Jewish artists explore the visual texture of their communities
Hosted by the Aleph Society’s Global Day of Jewish Learning, the Jewish Art Salon and Jewish Art Now
About the Global Day of Jewish Learning
The 2011 Global Day of Jewish Learning will focus on the unity of the Jewish people through the words of the Shema Yisrael, the quintessential Jewish prayer. Last year’s inaugural Global Day of Jewish Learning celebrated the completion of the Steinsaltz Talmud and counted over 400 communities in 48 countries and six continents. On Nov 13th, 2011, the second annual Global Day of Jewish Learning will unite Jewish communities through the study of sacred text.

Building upon the success of the 2010 Global Day, we are excited to announce a new partnership between the Global Day of Jewish Learning, the Jewish Art Salon and Jewish Art Now. “Global/Local” will be a virtual online gallery, accessible to all Global Day Communities.
