Temple Adas Israel's Art Program

 
Temple Adas Israel in Sag Harbor, NY has initiated an Artist-in Residence program in addition to art exhibits. Tobi Kahn will be its first Artist in Residence, Friday August 12 through Sunday August 14. Mr. Kahn will speak at Shabbat Services on Friday August 12 at 8 p.m. on “What is Sacred Space?” On Saturday morning August 13 at 11:30 a.m. following 10 a.m. services and 11 a.m. Kiddush Mr. Kahn’s topic will be “Judaism and the Visual” an interactive discussion and text study. On Sunday morning August 14 at 10:30 a.m. Mr. Kahn will speak on “A History of Art” with a slide presentation.

Temple Adas Israel's Rabbi Leon A. Morris is a leading educator in the field of adult Jewish study. He was the founding director of the Skirball Center for Adult Jewish Learning at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan. Together with Tobi Kahn he pioneered the Artists Beit Midrash at Skirball, a program that has since been duplicated with great success in other communities. Article on its recent art exhibit here,
 
Barbara Freedman’s art exhibit "New commentaries on old texts" consists of images based on old texts, done in a Beit Midrash at the Skirball center led by Tobi Kahn. Reception August 21 from 4-6 PM; the show will be up thru labor day. More info here. Freedman has been attending Skirball's Artists Beit Midrash since its conception.
