This documentary-in-progress portrays the Jewish community of Mumbai. With the support of a Fulbright Fellowship, Benjamin interviewed and filmed surviving members of this ancient settlement which has kept its Judaism vibrant through the centuries but is rapidly disappearing.

Benjamin, now resident in the United States, is originally from Mumbai.  This film is an outgrowth of her painting which is inspired by her childhood as a Jew in predominantly Hindu and Muslim India and her life in America today. In her art she blends the ancient and the modern, combining the traditions of  Indian miniature painting and Sephardic icons with contemporary art practice.

The artist and the producer will speak about the documentary and their personal encounters with the people in the film.

This is a free event but the artist and the producer hope that once you have seen the film, you will consider making a donation.
The artist is donating some of her work as gifts in  return for donations.
Donors at $500 will receive a silk scarf designed by the artist (pictured above).  She is offering paintings at the $1,000, $1,500, and $2,000 level. These are normally valued at much higher prices.
Benjamin’s work is in major public  collections and has been the subject of numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally.
